Treatment of Different Organic Waste Streams

A new UTV System was installed and successfully commissioned at the Levenseat Resource Management site in Forth during the second-to-last week of May 2026. In the future, the facility will treat both separately collected organic waste, known as SOW – Separate Organic Waste, and organic fractions recovered from residual municipal waste. With a capacity of up to 30,000 tonnes per year, the system is designed for large material volumes and continuous operation.

A key challenge lies in the different characteristics of the incoming materials. While separately collected organic waste generally has a relatively consistent composition, the organic fraction of residual waste can vary considerably in terms of structure and moisture content. The GORE® Cover System provides targeted aeration and creates stable conditions within the windrows. This allows the biological process to be controlled effectively while reducing odour development during particularly active composting phases.

Safe Cover Handling with Stationary Winding Units

Four stationary PWV winding units were installed to ensure efficient operational procedures. They assist the operating personnel with the controlled deployment and retraction of the membrane covers, simplifying a task that must be performed regularly during daily plant operation.

The winding units are positioned directly beside the designated working areas. This allows the covers to be handled quickly without unnecessary transport distances or lengthy interruptions between process stages. The result is improved ease of operation as well as safer and more clearly structured workflows throughout the facility.

Biological Treatment as Part of the Site Concept

With the new system, Levenseat Resource Management is expanding the treatment of organic waste fractions at its Forth site. The focus is on a solution that combines high processing capacities with practical and user-friendly operation.

The project demonstrates how controlled biological treatment and mechanised cover handling can be integrated into an established waste management operation. The resulting system is designed around reliable processes, short handling routes and efficient day-to-day operation.
