DIN/ISO certifications for UTV composting system

We have been honored! – Operational enclosure according to TA Luft

UTV AG takes quality management very seriously and is DIN/ISO certified.

UTV system recognized as the best available technique for biowaste treatment in Europe and Germany

UTV system recognized as the best available technique for biowaste treatment in Europe and Germany

We are also focusing on quality in the European context for the UTV system, which has been recognized as the best available technique (BAT) for the biological treatment of biowaste under the EU's Emissions Directive IED. This demonstrates an appropriate reduction in emissions and is a prerequisite for permitting procedures at European level.

For Germany, there is a legal authorization as "operational enclosure according to TA Luft". This means that the UTV technology also fulfills the requirements of the strict German legislation.

In addition, an eco-efficiency study by the bifa environmental institute highlights that composting with a membrane cover has the highest emissions retention compared to other biological waste treatment processes.

Quality management DIN EN ISO 9001

Optimized workflow

With certification in accordance with the DIN EN ISO 9001 quality management system, we ensure transparent processes and optimized workflows and while sending an important signal about our quality efforts to our customers and partners.

Our certification to the ISO 14000 environmental standard covers environmental management issues related to production processes and services. This provides us with a framework for systematizing and improving our environmental management system.

EU recognition as best available technology

The UTV windrow composting system with the GORE® membrane and cover is officially recognized under the EU Industrial Emissions Directive IED as the best available technique BAT for the biological treatment of biodegradable waste in the EU. The aim of BAT is to reduce emissions and impact on the environment.

The recognized best available technique "Semipermeable membrane covers with forced aeration with GORE®-Cover" applies throughout Europe to various biological treatments such as composting, stabilization and bio-drying. The described technology and emission limits form the basis for permitting procedures for the construction of biological waste treatment plants in Europe.

Approval as "operational enclosure according to TA Luft"

For Germany, the windrow composting system with the GORE® membrane and cover meets the strict requirements of the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control (TA Luft) and is therefore authorized as an "operational enclosure" as defined in the instructions.

Study "Eco-efficiency of biowaste composting"

Study "Eco-efficiency of biowaste composting"

Study "Eco-efficiency of biowaste composting through encapsulation with semi-permeable membrane cover" (bifa Umweltinstitut)

Graphic: Eco-efficiency portfolio of various biowaste treatment processes (Ecology Index < 0 means environmental relief; Ecology Index > 0 means environmental impact; Cost Index: standardization of process-specific costs at the maximum value).

Compared biowaste treatment processes: (1) Composting, open | (2) Composting, closed | (3) Composting, partially closed | (4) Fermentation, batch process | (5) Fermentation, plug-flow process | (6) Wet fermentation | (7) Waste incineration plant | (8) Composting, membrane process.

Result: With good management of anaerobic digestion and composting plants, the environmental differences between the treatment alternatives – except for open composting – are small. Composting by encapsulation with a semi-permeable membrane cover (8) has the lowest ecology index and is therefore the process with the highest environmental impact when considering average plant operation, but is close to closed/partially closed composting and plug-flow/wet fermentation.
