Windrow coverage – technically up to date & easy to handle.
Prince George's County in Maryland, USA, launched a pilot project in 2013 to compost food waste using our GORE® Cover technology. By using the GORE® Cover System, the county can increase its overall recycling rate. The end product of this process is known as Leafgro GOLD®, a nutrient-rich, dark, humus-like material that is marketed by the county's contractor, MES. The compost is produced in accordance with Maryland Department of Agriculture regulations and is a high-quality soil conditioner. In 2014, the county expanded the GORE® Cover System from a three-windrow pilot project to a continuous four-windrow process. The composting of green waste and biowaste in the GORE® Cover System was so successful that a further expansion to a system with eight windrows is planned. Since commissioning, around 5,000 tonnes of green waste and biowaste have been composted annually.
